Sponsorship Overview

Whether it's sporting success, innovative technological advances or fundraising for a worthy cause, unequivocal support is part of the Southland psyche.

Southland Vehicle Sales stays true to its Southern origins as a loyal and enthusiastic supporter within our community.

For us, sponsorship is not just writing out a cheque - it's a genuine belief in the organisation and a commitment from both parties to achieve mutual goals.

We'll even put our bodies on the line for a good cause, with several staff over the years representing SVS in the ring at charity boxing events. SVS have been the driving force behind the Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel netball team since 2010, while the Kia Motors team uses pedal power to cover nearly 900km of Southern terrain in the Tour of Southland cycle race.

Major sponsors of the Southland Sports Awards, we are proud to be the sponsor for the Team of the Year category. Support is crucial to success - and we're proud to play our part in Southland's.

Southland Sports Awards

Each year the achievements of Southland's top sporting stars are etched into history - from codes as varied as rugby and cycling to darts and clay target shooting.

We think success should be applauded and that's why Southland Vehicle Sales proudly sponsors the Team of the Year category - this year the honour went to the Paul Henare coached Sharks, who bought home the national league title in 2013.

With the aim of inspiring our local athletes and honouring their achievements and dedication, the Southland Sports Awards feature six other categories - senior, junior, coach, administrator, masters achievement and services to sport.

Whether it's provincial, national or world championship glory that earned the award, celebrating the winners' success underlines their value as role models in our community.

The 2013 title was won by the dynamic Paralympics cycling duo of Phillipa Gray and Laura Fairweather ' the tandem team bought home gold, silver and bronze medals from the Paralympics Games in London in 2012.

Southern Steel Netball

The Ascot Park Hotel Southern Steel galvanised a province of netball fans – attracting record crowds keen to see "our girls" test their mettle against Australasia's best.

It's a long, long road for the Southern-most team in the elite trans–Tasman competition who call both Invercargill and Dunedin home, and one SVS has been proud to help them travel.

In 2010 we were proud to be the driving force behind the Southern Steel Steel, with a fleet of the funky new Kia Soul cars to drive the team to repeat success in the 2010 season, and each year since we've kept the team on the road.

PowerNet Tour of Southland

Blustery winds, torrential rain, the infamous Bluff Hill, nearly 900km of challenging Southern terrain to endure " and still the PowerNet Tour of Southland appeals.

Hailed as New Zealand’s premier cycling tour, the annual fixture continues to capture the imagination of the Southland public as traditionally quiet rural roads come alive when the field speeds past. First staged in 1956 as a three"day tour to mark Invercargill’s centenary celebrations, the Tour of Southland has since gained momentum with New Zealand’s champion cyclists eager to count the grueling event among their accomplishments. Testament to its standing on the global stage, the tour was awarded UCI status in 2002 and became a registered 2.2 UCI International Tour.
