eigh Murray knows a lot about cars. There's lots of hints like the 1951 fully restored Vauxhall in his shed.
Then there's his CV.
Raised on a Morton Mains farm, Leigh owned a sheep & beef block at Rakauhouka before injury forced a move off the land. Doing a stint as a new vehicle brand manager (an even briefer stint on farm machinery), then his own Dee Street yard (named Leigh Murray Motors) which he managed for eight years before handing over the reins to his son George.
So what enticed him to move?
"Rick (Murrell) has been annoying me for a while," he joked.
Seriously it was the chance to consolidate all that experience into one role.
As SVS Sales Manager it's Leigh's job to manage the day to day sales of a business that includes two brand dealerships, a quality second hand yard and an active on-line sales presence.
He's a bit distracted today (there's four sales buzzing in his head that need to be finalised) and talking about himself is a low priority. He has three (mostly grown) children, coaches rugby for Southland Boys High School and Pirates Old Boys (his own playing career cut short by injury) and is also qualified small goods and pastry chef.
